About Me

My name is John Mares, and I am an AED certified Equine Dental Practitioner -- CEqD.

I have been working with horses for over 24 years in various aspects.  After studying Animal Science and Equine Reproduction, I went to work on a large Thoroughbred farm foaling out mares.  After some years foaling out mares, I moved to Northern California.

Having seen firsthand some horses deteriorate rapidly from poor teeth, I was soon drawn into Equine Dental Equilibration.  I learned that basic hand-floating was insufficient to address the horse’s oral health needs throughout his lifespan.

I studied at the Academy of Equine Dentistry in Glenns Ferry, Idaho.  After completing two years of training in the classroom, wet lab and in the field, I became certified, and am practicing Dental Equilibration in the Bay Area, and Central California.

My diamond-coated instruments are tissue-friendly, and I use a gentle touch.  I have the capability of working remotely with my noiseless, fumeless portable battery-powered AC source.  You provide the clean water.
